Former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear was killed while she was vacationing with her family in the violent south American country on Monday night (January 6, 2014). Her ex-husband, travel firm boss Thomas Henry Berry was also shot dead and their bodies were discovered in their car. The couple’s five-year-old daughter Maya Veliz survived the shooting and was in stable condition following the events.
Monica Spear and her UK hubby were travelling with their kid on the Puerto Cabello-Valencia highway in a grey Toyota Corolla when the car broke down. They were waiting for a tow truck to arrive when armed men showed up. Monica Spear and Thomas Henry Berry locked themselves inside the vehicle with their girl but the unknown assailants opened fire through the windows and killed them. The 29-year-old soap opera was believed to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds while the 39-year-old British citizen was shot in his chest. Their daughter was wounded by a bullet in her leg.
The attack took place in El Cambur, Venezuela, which is more dangerous than many warzones and has one of the world's highest murder rates.

The couple tied the knot in June 2008 and divorced in 2013. However, they still remained good friends.

Monica Spear was crowned Miss Venezuela in 2004. She then became a telenovela actress in her country, appearing in a number of Spanish language TV soap operas. She worked in Colombia and more recently in the United States.
