Latin singer Ricky Martin officially split from his boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella after three years of serious dating. The news was announced by the "Livin La Vida Loca" hitmaker’s representative on Thursday (January 2, 2014). “Ricky and Carlos have mutually agreed to end their relationship but continue to be united by friendship and their shared experiences,” the spokesperson said.

He seemed to be hinting at the breakup in a series of recent tweets during the holiday week. The 42-year-old superstar also showed up solo at his New Year’s Eve concert at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico.

Ricky Martin and his partner Carlos Gonzalez Abella have been parents to 5-year-old twin boys Matteo and Valentino, who were born via surrogate in 2008. The couple began dating three years ago when the Puerto Rican superstar came out as gay. “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am,” Ricky Martin wrote on his personal website on March 29, 2010.

Ricky Martin and his longtime boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella started dating in 2010 when the singer came out as gay to the public after years of speculation.

The couple shared the care of 5-year-old twins, Matteo and Valentino, who are trilingual, speaking French, Spanish and English.The twins were born via surrogate in August 2008.

Ricky Martin’s partner Carlos Gonzalez Abella was a stock broker and a nephew of former Puerto Rican governor Pedro Rossello Gonzalez.

Ricky Martin previously gushed about Carlos Gonzalez Abella and praised him for bringing "wonderful things" into his life. He also said that the pair had learnt a lot from each other.
