David Beckham 2014: UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Visits Typhoon-hit Tacloban in the Philippines

David Beckham was photographed visiting a community in need in typhoon-hit Tacloban in the Philippines on Thursday (February 13, 2014). The former England soccer team captain greeted the recent typhoon victims on behalf of UNICEF and his trip to the storm-devastated city was part of the organization’s relief efforts. It is the second time David Beckham has visited the Philippines as a UNICEF ambassador. The retired football star had his first trip to the country in 2011 when he made an exhibition game with the Philippine Azkals.

"I was humbled to visit Tacloban and see how people are still so full of spirit despite the devastation they have suffered,” David Beckham said. “As a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, seeing how children are being given a sense of normality amidst the rubble of their communities has been amazing.”

During his visit, the former footballer exchanged high-fives and interacted with the typhoon survivors who have been living in United Nations-provided tents. He shook hands and took pictures with the typhoon victims in Tacloban City before visiting a World Food Program warehouse in nearby Palo town.
